Our latest Enrichment Project featured the building of a T-Rex Dinosaur. Rainbow Rex is complete! Now he has eyes to see all the beautiful artwork made by our 4&5 year olds! This Enrichment project covered all areas of development. Before this project began, we studied the Tyrannosaurus Rex. We learned when he lived, what he ate, and why he needed such a big tail. Then we studied the shapes that made up his body. When we started with the boxes, we could see his body in shapes. From that point, it took building muscles and forming more detailed body shapes. Then using fine motor skills, we dipped thin strips of newspaper into the flour water mixture and used our fingers to skim off the paste. When the painting happened, the children were ready and eager to make our dinosaur rainbow colors. They voted on a name and accepted the winning name as Rainbow. They transferred the knowledge learned into pictures that they made of Rainbow Rex standing next to each of them. When the project was finished, they carried all the leftover newspaper out to the recyclables. They swept up the floor and picked up loose pieces of paper. The project was done! There was a commitment and a follow through, and a feeling of super accomplishment from such an incredible experience!
